If you havent seen this on your favorite TV show I am sure you've seen it on social media, if you havent close your eyes (after you're done reading) and imagine with me for a moment. Picture an ideal spring or fall day, the sky is soft blue and the air has a cool breeze, you spread a blanket in a grassy area to sit for a moment. Perhaps you brought a picnic with some of the homemade bread you learned to make last year during quarantine and you're enjoying some Lo-fi beats while you sip tea and and enjoy the beauty of mother Earth around you.
This, and more, is Cottagecore. An opportunity to slow down and enjoy simple pleasures like afternoon tea as if we lived in an idealic English countryside cottage with a proper English garden. I personally enjoy that the aesthetic is mutable depending on the region and culture embracing this lifestyle so while one day it may be a soft country cottage, or a cozy hut in a remote village, and the next day it could be a backwoods farmhouse with a tin roof or damp creaky cottage at the edge of the woods, where a witch may or may not live.
Appreciating and living in the Cottagecore lifestyle is not necessarily based on religion or spiritual practice but more often an appreciation for the pleasures in life that money cant buy. Some folks even use the term "countrycore" or "farmcore" as the concepts are similar...what can I make with my hands? What can I use that I already have? How can I make my home warm and cozy? Simple pleasures require little to maintain which make them easier to enjoy.
