Late in the night on April 13th 2023, the Florida republican legislature approved, and Governor DeSantis signed, a 6-week abortion ban into law, this means that Florida has made it a crime to obtain an abortion after 6 weeks of pregnancy. This law is not based on medical evidence nor is it supported by the medical community or the majority of citizens of the state. It is devastating that leadership of this state has actively taken steps to endanger thousands of lives due to their personal preference, instead of upholding their responsibility of serving the people's agenda and passing family protections laws that really matter.
I oppose this law on a personal and professional level. I am concerned about the potential for harm to our community as harm has already occurred in many other states that have passed similar laws. I will continue to advocate for and elevate access to safe and equitable abortion care. Abortion is healthcare and without equitable healthcare access communities experience an unfortunate chain reaction that increases the likelihood of violence, financial insecurity, and crime, specifically within communities of color, regardless of income level.
As a professional I will continue to share information regarding safe, evidence based, and accessible abortion and family planning methods as it is each individual's right to make choices regarding their own body and reproductive experiences. I will continue to offer preconception coaching that offers the information and support needed to make the best choices for your life.
On a personal level I say F*CK DeSantis and abortion is forever.
