As my 9 year old keeps reminding me, there's only 8 more days until Christmas and no matter how you recognize holidays there's definitely a building energy that everyone can feel.
For many folks holidays are just another day on the calendar as they cruise through life while many others recognize these days as reverent and holy. There's groups who are excited to shop, wrap gifts, and wear crazy sweaters while a whole other group feels anxious, overwhelmed, or depressed. Have you ever stopped to wonder why this time of year triggers such a wide array of responses? I know on the surface we can subscribe to the notion that holidays have become "commercialized", and they have, but I don't see such strong reactions during cinco de mayo or father's day. I'd like you to consider that holidays in fall/winter months trigger different responses due to the change of season. During a change in season we're experiencing a change in the amount of daylight we see, even here in Florida the weather changes, I currently have brown leaves all over my parking lot and we've all heard of the winter storms. During the fall and winter months the available produce changes so what we eat might even change. If you're struggling with these energetic shifts you're not alone! Don't be surprised if you feel more tired, if you find yourself reaching for more comfort foods or get a little irritable. It's that time of year.
